"Tory leader David Cameron has ordered his shadow cabinet to repay their expenses claims on their second homes and has established an independent scrutiny committee to investigate claims made by backbenchers. Those who refuse to co-operate and repay claims will be expelled from the party. Michael Gove, the shadow schools secretary, will repay £7,000 in furniture expenses, while Alan Duncan, the shadow leader of the Commons, will repay more than £5,000 in gardening costs. "
The Independent
"Tory leader David Cameron yesterday ordered his MPs that they must pay back any excessive expenses claims or be kicked out of the party. Labour has also produced its own package of reforms to MPs’ allowances, proposing a cap on mortgage payments under the second homes allowance. Mr Cameron has established a scrutiny panel that will investigate past claims, with anyone refusing to comply losing the party whip."
